10月中旬にthe Northern Cape Province of South Africaからの、4人のRift Valley fever (RVF リフトバレー熱) 感染が疑われる患者について、the Special Pathogens Unit, National Institute for Communicable Disease of the National Health Laboratory Serviceにおいて検査が行われていた。このうち、2人は血清検査・ウイルス分離・核酸同定によって、RVF virusの感染の診断が確定された。発端患者からのウイルスの、M分節segmentの一部の塩基配列のデータを解析したところ、このウイルスは、2004 Namibian isolate from the Caprivi Strip, and clustering with a 1981 South African isolate from the East Coast, and isolates from Senegal (1993), Central African Republic (1969) and Guinea (1981, 1984)などと近縁の関係にあることが判明したものの、other South African isolates[2009年3月に Kwazulu-Natal、2008年には他の4州(Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West and Gauteng)で分離]との近接性は認められなかった。...
